Remember that part in the Anthology during which a Greek island was mentioned,
which the band intended to purchase? Ever wondered what that crazy idea was all about?
Here's some info to put the venture into perspective:
Specifics:
Leslo, as is the island's name, is one of five islands which comprise a
group of islands known as the Aegos.
Size:
Roughly 3 square kilometers large
Proposed price:
90,000 - 120,000 GBP
What it would have included:
Five fishing huts, olive trees, beaches
Timeline:
July 20, 1967 - George, Pattie, Ringo & Neil Aspinall fly to Athens
July 22, 1967 - Paul, Jane Asher, John, Cynthia, Julian & Mal Evans follow
Meanwhile, Alistair Taylor flew back to London (as he'd gone down to Greece before the
band) and intended to tend to all of the formalities.
The British authorities only gave their permission after the intervention of the real estate
company the band had contacted (Goodman, Derrick & Co.) - but by that time, the Beatles had decided that the whole Greek
island idea wasn't such a winner after all.
The rest of the Greek vacation was spent sightseeing...
And in other words...:
"...That was what happened when we got out. It was safer making records, because once they
let us out, we'd just go barmy."
- Ringo

Alas, what might have been... ;)
