INDRA * Located
at Grosse Freiheit No. 64 * The Beatles played
at its opening on August 18, 1960 * At the time, the
club housed eleven tables and a small stage * There
was enough room for about sixty people * The Beatles earned 30 DM per day per person * They played seven days a week,
four hours at a time * They played for 48 nights at the Indra * Due to complaints about the noise of the rock n roll,
the Indra returned to being a Strip Club on October 16/17, 1960
KAISERKELLER * Located at the corner of Grosse Freiheit 36/Schmuckstrasse * During the Festival
of Rock n Roll Bands, the Beatles played here on October 1, 1960, switching every hour with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes *
After moving from the Indra to the Kaiserkeller, the Beatles played there until the end of November 1960 * Due to the fact
that the Beatles had also taken to playing at the Top Ten (competition for the Kaiserkeller, of course), they were soon forced
to return to England * This was Bruno Koschmider's doing, who used the fact that George was only 17 at the time, and hence
illegally performing after the curfew, to send them home
TOP TEN CLUB * Located at Reeperbahn No.
136 * The Beatles played probably played here prior to signing a contract to do so, with Tony Sheridan * Starting on
April 1, 1961 and ending July 1 or 2, 1961 they played here under a contract * They played seven days a week, from 7 p.m.
to 2 a.m. * They played here approximately 90 times
STAR-CLUB * Located at Grosse Freiheit 39 *
At the opening of the club on April 13, 1962, the Beatles played there along with Tony Sheridan, again calling themselves
the Beat Brothers * Until May 31, 1962, the Beatles played at the club 48 times (the only day off they had was Good Friday) *
When they returned to Hamburg again from November 1 to 14, 1962, they played at the Star Club again, about 13 times, during
which time the headliner was Little Richard * The Beatles played here for the last time from December 18 to 31, 1962 *
It was on December 31, 1962, that Kingsize Taylor recorded the Beatles playing, which has been issued countless times with
countless different names on LP and CD; the first time it was issued was 1977, labeled THE BEATLES LIVE! AT THE STAR-CLUB
IN HAMBURG, GERMANY, 1962
